The following is a project created by Tania Gelin for the Global Pandemics in an Unequal World taught by Prof. Sakiko Fukuda-Parr.
This paper looks at the response of COVID-19 by the NBA, and how the association lacked a proper narrative in response to the pandemic. It includes an analysis of the flaws in the NBA’s pandemic response, and how this response affects Black communities across America. It is also a critique of the systemic racism that exists within the American healthcare system, and suggests that the NBA and its players should be role models and leaders in implementing change for Black communities and their health.
