Internship Opportunity- UN Liaison for United Mission for Relief and Development

Position Title UN Liaison  
Reports to SPO
Direct Reports N/A
  • Role Purpose
The UN Liaison will act under the authority of UMR. S/he will liaise with key program and operational working groups.
  • Key Accountability
    • Facilitate communications between UMR, foreign consulates, and UN authority heads
    • Analyze and advise UMR HQ and field office staff on thematic priority areas of the UN especially those with relevance in the Middle East and East Africa
    • Keep abreast of emerging political, socio-economic and security developments worldwide that have the potential to affect UMR’s field operations
    • Enhance UMR’s reputation and visibility in the United Nations
    • Enable a coherent UN response on relevant UMR programming and policy issues
    • Ensure compliance on planning and reporting requirements put forward by United Nation agency partners
    • Provide support for resource mobilization efforts
    • Contribute to the analysis of political, social, and economic situations in-countries where UMR is operational and prepare supporting documentation for submission of UMR programs to UN agencies
    • Contribute to evidence-based policy dialogues which will shape UMR programs and beneficiary selection
    • Support strategic partnerships with United Nations agencies and non-state actors (NSAs) active in the philanthropic sector
    • Identify high-visibility, results-oriented communications with media and other key partners
    • Ensure the regular coverage of UN agency working group meetings and conferences
    • Act as a point of referral for communications between the UN, UMR, and local authorities
  • Perform duties as needed.
  • Qualifications
    • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field (e.g Business Administration, Public Relations, Communications) , Master’s degree preferred
    • Strong telephone, organizational and filing skills and oral and written communication skills
    • Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment with respect to prioritization
    • Thoroughness and careful attention to detail
    • Ability to work cooperatively and courteously with others
  • Willingness to travel domestically 10%
  • Experience
    • 2-3 years of experience in a similar role
    • Experience working across industry sectors
    • Outstanding interpersonal skills, including an ability to develop a rapport with members of the public and government leaders from around the globe
    • Understanding of the strategic role that communications and community engagement
    • Experience with public/private partnerships
  • A broad network of contacts in the private sector
