Intern, Corporate and Grassroots Engagement

Overview

The United Nations Foundation links the UN’s work with others around the world, mobilizing the energy and expertise of business and non-governmental organizations to help the UN tackle issues including climate change, global health, peace and security, women’s empowerment, poverty eradication, energy access, and U.S.-UN relations.

The New York Office is the Foundation’s primary relationship manager with the UN system and diplomatic community in New York. In addition to monitoring, tracking and analyzing the day-to-day activities of the UN, the NY Office works closely to support the leadership of the Secretary-General in the areas of women’s and children’s health, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, strategic communications, and partnership building with the private sector.

The Corporate and Grassroots Engagement intern will provide cross-cutting communications, research and events support to the team– allowing him/her learn about several priority issues of the Foundation.

Responsibilities

  • Support key functions of the Corporate Relations and UNA-USA teams, and of the New York office more broadly.
  • Support UNA-USA grassroots advocacy through various programming and events, including Congressional Learning Trips, the Seton Hall Summer Intensive Study Program and the UNA-USA Leadership Summit
  • Support partner mapping and management, including through online platforms like Salesforce
  • Participate in activities related to above priorities and attend related meetings at the UN, in the office and with partner organisations.
  • Assist with preparation and dissemination of materials including meeting notes and
  • reports
  • Conduct basic research and assist with preparation of background documents, funding proposals and preparation of collateral for meetings
  • Assist with preparation, execution, and follow-up of UN Foundation events and meetings including assisting with logistics, invitations and reports
  • Provide office-wide administrative support to support the day-to-day functioning of the UN Foundation and engage with different teams in the office

Selection Criteria

  • Candidate must be enrolled in a degree granting program during the internship or must be a recent graduate (within 8 months of graduation) of a college or university with a demonstrated interest in the UN and international development
  • Candidate is ideally expected to work full-time, though we are able to accommodate students’ schedules as needed.
  • Strong communications (including web and social media), organizational and interpersonal skillsAbility to take initiative and be a self-starter – while also contributing to a strong team environment.
  • Fast learner with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Experience with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge of Photoshop a plus.
  • Interest in the United Nations, International Development, Global Health, Sustainability and International Affairs and the role of the private sector in development.

Benefits & Compensation

The United Nations Foundation offers unpaid semester-long full and part-time internships during the following:

  • Fall: September-December
  • Spring: January-April
  • Summer: June-August
